Hello, my name is Leighann (she/her) and I am a licensed Social Service Worker with training from the University of Utah and Columbia University. I am also a Somatic Therapist with over a decade of experience and 7 years of additional education in somatic, movement, and manual therapies, such as Feldenkrais Functional Integration and Rolf Structural Integration. My somatic background informs my approach to therapy through integrating a unique blend of body-mind holism in our work together.
I go beyond creating a non-judgemental space to provide a genuinely accepting, safe environment to share your life experiences. I believe safe spaces are transformed into brave spaces, where even our most vulnerable parts can be reclaimed and rediscovered through curiosity, context, and compassion. Together, we will cultivate the self-compassion, curiosity, and embodied sense of calm that leads to healing and growth.
I work with Emerging Adults and Adults who are rebuilding their lives, affirming their identities, or adapting to a new normal, often after experiencing the groundlessness of a life changing event or life transition. This includes individuals who have experienced divorce, faith transition, family estrangement, chronic illness, injury, or chronic pain. I attend to the non-death grief and loss or disenfranchised grief that can accompany such experiences. I support women who are navigating the stresses of pregnancy, motherhood, menopause, midlife or empty nest transitions; this may include infertility, birth trauma, PMDD, perinatal and perimenopausal depression or anxiety. I have a special interest in working with individuals healing from various types of trauma, including medical trauma, secondary traumatic stress, and vicarious trauma. This may include family caregivers and clients in caring professions (like nurses/healthcare professionals, teachers, mental health professionals, body workers, and veterinarians) who are experiencing compassion fatigue or burnout.
What’s unique about my approach is the way I integrate my background in somatic therapy, which means we attend closely to how stress and trauma impact your body and nervous system. I implement mindfulness, meditation, breathwork, and somatic awareness practices. Together, we will work toward an embodied sense of ease, allowing you to move through life with more options, increased internal support, and strengthened confidence in your capacity to bounce back. I provide individualized care tailored to your unique experiences, needs, and goals. We may incorporate aspects of a variety of modalities and theories, such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and narrative work.
My approach is LGBTQIA+ affirming, Anti-racist, and Anti-oppressive. This means that I honor your multiple intersecting identities and I consider the broader implications of your social environment and cultural systems, as well as the intricate dynamics of power, race, oppression, and privilege that may be at play. Most importantly, I affirm that you are the expert of your own lived experiences.
In the final stage of Advanced Clinical training at Columbia University, I am immersed in the latest evidence-based therapeutic techniques. My clients benefit from my continuous local supervision from Elana Olson, as well ongoing education from Columbia’s world-renowned experts, whose research often sets the standards for social work practice. This allows me to bring you the most effective, up-to-date care.
Though I have lived most of my adult life in Colorado, I now call Utah home. I am a mom to twin daughters and an adorable goldendoodle. I love nature walks, warm tea, and a good book. I wish you peace and wellbeing along your path to healing.
